Accused Cop Killer Captured

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EYT) – The man who is accused of murdering a police officer during a traffic stop on Friday night was taken into custody early this morning.

According to Pittsburgh Action News 4, 29-year-old Rahmael Sal Holt, of Natrona Heights, (pictured above) was captured around 5:00 a.m. in Hazelwood.

Several other individuals were also taken into custody for hindering apprehension.

Details on the arrests have not been released.

State police will hold a press conference at 10:00 a.m. today.

In a published article on pittsburgh.cbslocal.com yesterday, Holt’s mother stated that he wanted to turn himself in. She told police that she did not know her son’s whereabouts, however.

Holt is accused of shooting and killing New Kensington Police Officer Brian Shaw.

Shaw, 25, was in his first year on the job.

The driver of the vehicle Shaw attempted to pull over, Tavon Jamere Harper, was arrested on Sunday at his residence. Holt ran from the SUV Harper was driving and shot Shaw in the chest during a foot chase.

Harper said he had delivered marijuana to Holt before the traffic stop. Police found $2,500.00 on Harper as well as two bundles of stamp bags of suspected heroin in a second-floor bedroom of the home, according to police.

A reward of $53,500.00 was being offered for information that would help police find and arrest Holt.
