AmeriCorps: Sarah Kasanicky, Punxsutawney Area School District

Sarah Kasanicky_JeffersonPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Sarah Kasanicky is serving AmeriCorps at Punxsutawney Area School District, Parkview Elementary.

The following article is an interview with Sarah Kasanicky:

My name is Sarah Kasanicky. I decided to choose AmeriCorps to gain experience teaching and serving students. I knew about this program previous to my joining and I liked what it stood for. AmeriCorps has a great service learning foundation, where they focus on community service type projects to have kids learn through hands on experiences. I served in the high school last year and this was a great way to incorporate the children along with our service activities. The children served with us to also earn community service hours towards their senior projects, some children even volunteered just for fun. This year I serve in the elementary school and it is a completely different experience. The children are eager to learn and never hesitate to ask for my help. They also try to take part in raising donations of food or other items for our AmeriCorps projects as well. It is just amazing to be a part of such an amazing community and foundation such as AmeriCorps.
