Carl Dennis Smyers

Carl Dennis Smyers, 88, of North Park Street, Sykesville, PA died on Tuesday, November 06, 2018, at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born on September 9, 1930, in Sykesville, PA, he was the son of the late Dennis D. and Beulah V. Weaver Smyers. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Liverpool, England during the Korean War and attended the Pennsylvania State University.

On April 25, 1959, he married Alice A. (Anderson) Smyers. She survives.

Carl retired from Rockwell International Manufacturing as a mechanical designer after 30 years of service.

He was a past member of the Sykesville Borough Council and was a volunteer for the Sykesville Little League. He also served as an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 75 in the Boy Scouts of America.

Since 1942, Carl had been a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Sykesville Hunting Club.

Carl is survived by three children, Carl Smyers, Jr. of Middletown, NY, Daniel M. Smyers and his wife Milissa of Huntingdon, PA, and Susan Berry and her husband Colin of Gallup, NM, and seven grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert J. Smyers, and two sisters, Barbara J. Harvey and Lois R. Peoples.

There will be no public visitation.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. from the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Drew Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Sykesville Memorial Cemetery.

The Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
