PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Charges against a Jefferson County woman accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her former students has been waived.
According to court documents, the case against 29-year-old Megan Roselyn Bartley, of Spruce Street, Anita, Pa., a former teacher at Soaring Heights School, in DuBois, has been transferred to Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.
On November 2, Bartley waived her preliminary hearing. Her bail was reduced from $500,000.00 to $37,500.00, and she posted it the same day and was released from the Jefferson County Jail.
She is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy and charged with the following offenses:
– School – Intercourse/Sexual Contact with Student, Felony 3 (15 counts)
– Unlawful Contact with Minor – Sexual Offenses, Felony 3 (20 counts)
– Corruption of Minors, Misdemeanor 1 (20 counts)
Bartley is awaiting the scheduling of a pre-trial conference with the district attorney’s office.
According to police, they also learned that the boy’s mother, 41-year-old Bridget Ann Kruzelak, of Delancey, was allegedly aware of and permitted the actions of Bartley and her son.
Kruzelak was charged with child endangerment, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 4, 2018.
According to police, the investigation began when employees at Soaring Heights used the state’s Department of Human Services ChildLine and Abuse Registry. It is part of a mandated statewide child protective services program designed to accept child abuse referrals.
The referral in this case was made to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office where DA Jeff Burkett referred the case to Punxsutawney-based State Police.
Their investigation found that Bartley and the 17-year-old boy were engaged in an intimate, sexual relationship for several months while she was a teacher at Soaring Heights.
Police say the sexual acts committed by Bartley took place while at, or near, a residence on Spruce Street in McCalmont Township.
