Sather won the championship by 8.8 points and is the 48th Clarion diver under head coach Dave Hrovat to win a national title.

Kehn, meanwhile, scored 479.20 to claim fourth.

“If you can’t get excited about something like that, there’s not too much you can get excited about,” Hrovat said. “Both girls did amazing, it was beyond my expectations I’m just so thrilled.”

With her win, Sather earned the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division II Women’s Diver of the Year, while Hrovat was named the national women’s coach of the year for the 15th time in his career, making it 26 total Coach of the Year honors (15 women’s awards, 11 men’s awards) for the long-time mentor.

An eight-time All-American, Sather won her second career national championship on Friday night when she placed first in the 3M Dive. Earlier in the week, she placed third in the 1M Dive giving her the best finish of her career in the 3M dive. Last year she placed third in the 3M Dive and was the National Champion in the 1M Dive.

“Christina was totally deserving of this, and I couldn’t be more proud with the way she competed,” Hrovat said. “She was so deserving of this award.”

Hrovat, who has now coached nearly 300 total All-Americans since coming to Clarion 29 years ago, was last named the Women’s Coach of the Year in 2018. In addition to Sather’s performance, Hrovat also coached Kehn, the national runner-up in the 1M Dive on Thursday and an All-America award in the 3M Dive tonight.

“I always say these awards are about the athletes and not the coach,” Hrovat said. “To tell you the truth, tonight I was only thinking about Christina getting recognized. I’m certainly happy to accept the award, but it’s really a testament to the effort that Christina and Emma put in this week and all year.”
