Woman Charged with Trying to Smuggle Drugs into Jefferson County Jail


BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — A woman has been charged with bringing illegal narcotics into the Jefferson County Jail earlier this month.

According to court documents, DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against 22-year-old Chante Ciara McCreary, of Indiana.

She was arraigned on June 6 in District Judge Greg Bazylak’s office on the following charges:

– Prohibited Contraband, Alcohol and Drugs, Brought into Correctional Institution, Felony

– Intentional Possession of Controlled Substance by Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor

– Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

According to the criminal complaint, Tpr. Perry of the DuBois-based State Police, took McCreary to the Jail after her arrest from an outstanding warrant in Indiana County.

Tpr. Perry, Cpl. Adam Borden and JCJ staff asked McCreary if she had any drug and she said she did not.

While she was being searched, an uncapped needle, pills, and a small bag of brown powder were found.

McCreary remains lodged in the Jefferson County Jail after failing to post $25,000 cash bail.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. on July 11 with Judge Bazylak presiding.
