Driver Hits Bear in Clover Township

CLOVER TWP., JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – Police say two black bears caused a one-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Clover Township.

According to police, around 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 18, 44-year-old Anthony F. Struble of Hawthorn was operating a 2015 Dodge Dart, traveling north on State Route 28 just north of Jefferson Road in Clover Township, Jefferson County.

Police say two black bears entered Struble’s lane of travel and Struble’s vehicle struck one of the bears, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then crossed over into the southbound lane and struck the guide rail before coming to a final rest.

Struble was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Leadbetter’s Towing Service.

Summerville Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene with traffic control.
