Eleanor M. States

Eleanor M. States, 91, of Punxsutawney passed away Monday, November 5, 2018, at Mulberry Square.

She was born on July 12, 1927, in Blairsville, a daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Patterson) Crawford. On January 15, 1948, she married William G. States. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1989.

Eleanor was a member of the Steffey United Methodist Church. Her enjoyments in life were her children, however, she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren the most, she loved holding the new babies and little ones. Reading was a favorite pass time, she made enjoyed the Punxsutawney Library and the abundance of books available. She also enjoyed playing Bingo.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Pearce and husband Frank, Kathryn Campbell and husband Michael, and Carol States, all of Punxsutawney, and Tracy Pearce and husband Dave of Rossiter; nine grandchildren, Marci (Nick) Gianvito, Tobie Nelson and Scott, Cherish Williams, Kristi (Mark) Lamorte, William (Christine) Pearce, Mike Campbell, Matt (Falisha) Campbell, Jake Pearce, and Hannah Pierce; eleven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jane and husband Jack of North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband William, two granddaughters, Sheila Pearce, and Morgan Pierce; two brothers, Jack Crawford and Charles Crawford; two sisters, Helen Empfield and Florence Hix.

Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2018, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Chuck Prevost. Interment will follow at Pearce Cemetery, Rossiter.
