Investigators Still Searching for Cause of Fire That Destroyed Punxsy Residence


PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Investigators are still looking into the exact cause of a fire that destroyed a Punxsutawney home on November 8.

Police say Chief Doug McAfoos of the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Department requested assistance in determining the origin and cause of a fire that occurred around 11:40 a.m. at a 323 Pine Street residence.

According to the Troop C Fire Marshal Unit of Punxsutawney-based State Police, the fire is believed to have started in the laundry room; however, an exact cause has yet to be determined.

Two people were home at the time of the fire with one being taken to the hospital by ambulance and receiving treatment for smoke inhalation. The other person was not injured.

The residence is owned by 70-year-old Virginia Dendy, of Marlinton, West Va. 

Damage was estimated at $100,000.00.
