Jeanne I. Brocious

Jeanne I. Brocious, 86, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, November 4, 2018, at her residence at Mahoning Street Personal Care Home in Punxsutawney.

She lived out her final days surrounded by her family and close friends.

Born March 7, 1932, in Dora, she was the daughter of the late Grace (Lingenfelter) and William Carl Mottern. On May 1, 1948, she married Donald H. Brocious, who preceded her in death on January 8, 2015.

Jeanne devoted much of her adult life to the daily operation of Brocious Lumber Co. in Timblin, a business she and Don established and owned for forty-one years before retiring in 2002. Though slight of build, Jeanne was always able to amaze their customers by how hard she could work. When not occupied with running the business, Jeanne would “relax” by mowing, weed-eating, and doing other yard work. Prior to the onset of health issues that limited her mobility seven years ago, Jeanne and Don enjoyed frequent traveling, which took them to all fifty states plus three continents, and she especially looked forward to their twice-yearly drives to Branson, Missouri. Despite her busy life, she always had plenty of time for her family, and she especially loved tending to the grandchildren and taking them on day trips and outings.

After becoming a resident of Mahoning Riverside Manor, Jeanne’s greatest joy was looking forward to visits from family and friends. She never tired of having company, and everyone’s visits always ended with Jeanne stating, “Thanks for coming, but you don’t have to be in a hurry”. During those times that she didn’t have visitors, Jeanne spent many contented hours doing beautiful and intricately detailed coloring in adult coloring books. She also enjoyed scrapbooking for herself and for others.

Jeanne is survived by four children, Vicki Shaffer, Beverly Kunselman, Sheila Reams, and Dennis Brocious, all of whom live in the surrounding area with their families. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Kevin Kunselman, Curt Shaffer, Korry Kunselman, Brett Shaffer, Cammy (Brocious) Wardell, Ashley (Reams) Jordan, Hunter Reams, and Lindsay Brocious, and nine great-grandchildren, Jade (Kunselman) Peterson, Aleya Shaffer, Dain Shaffer, Clayton Wardell, Aiden Shaffer, Willow Shaffer, Makayla Shaffer, Piper Jordan, and Paige Caldwell. All seventeen of Jeanne’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren live in the surrounding area with their families.

In addition to her husband and parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Mottern and Frank Mottern, and a son-in-law, Lanny Kunselman.

In accordance with Jeanne’s wishes, there will be no service or funeral home visitation.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the local chapter of Make-A-Wish, 109 North Findley St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767, or to Children’s Hospital, 4401 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224, two places which remained dear to Jeanne’s heart because of care and benefits received there by two of her grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
