Jefferson County Fire Companies Rescue Oliver Township Couple

OLIVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – The combination of heavy rain and melting snow led to the rescue of an Oliver Township couple Friday morning.

According to Punxsutawney Volunteer Fire Department Chief Scott Depp, the Oliver Township VFD was called to the residence along Route 36 near Coolspring when two older residents couldn’t get out of their home as floodwaters rose.

Oliver Township VFD then requested Punxsy’s assistance because they have a boat and divers.

“There was about three or four feet of water surrounding their home for about 100 yards so we launched the boat and got them out,” Depp said.

According to a Jefferson County 911 representative, they are receiving numerous phone calls of flooded basements. They also said a particular area of concern is in the Clover Township/Summerville area where water has flooded some local roads and is rising near Baxter Bridge.
