The charges stem from a report of an assault that occurred sometime between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. on January 7 on Carlton Avenue in Punxsutawney Borough.

According to a criminal complaint, on Monday, January 7, a known man came to the Punxsutawney Borough Police Station to report that he was assaulted by David Bartlebaugh.

The victim stated that he lives across from Bartlebaugh and a known woman.

During the interview, the victim explained that on Friday, January 4, he was walking toward a local bar, and he saw the known woman, and they continued on to a local bar and had a few beers.

The known woman asked the victim to come back to her house to “hang out.” The victim and the known woman went to her house and had sexual intercourse, and the victim stayed over on Friday night.

The victim was also at the known woman’s house on Sunday night and fell asleep. He woke up to Bartlebaugh kicking in the bedroom door, according to the complaint.

The complaint states that Bartlebaugh gained entry into the bedroom, jumped on the victim, and punched him several times in the eye with a closed fist, causing the victim severe pain to his face. Bartlebaugh then punched the victim in the nose with a closed fist, causing his nose to bleed.

At that time, the victim returned to his house across the street. A short time later, the known woman came to his house to bring him his clothes and to help him with his injuries, the complaint states.

Later on, the victim went to the Punxsutawney Area Emergency Room where he was treated for a nasal fracture and a sprained left forearm.

Bartlebaugh was arraigned at 3:45 p.m. on January 15 at Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office.

Unable to post $50,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on January 22 in front of Judge Mizerock.
