Jefferson County Veterans Affairs Workshop Helps Those In Need

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Jefferson County Commissioner Herb Bullers reported on the Veterans Affairs Workshop that was held on September 14 during Tuesday’s meeting in Brookville.

He said that several veterans of the Armed Services received help, including one homeless man that heard about the workshop and came to Jefferson Place.

Someone at the workshop was outside and found the man and got him upstairs, so he could learn how to receive benefits he is eligible for.

“We all said if one person was helped in this, it was well worth it, but we were fortunate to be able to help several people out,” Bullers said.

In other business:

– Van Steenberg reported that all antlerless deer licenses have been mailed out. For those who have not received theirs in the mail, they can call his office and get a replacement at no cost.

– Brad Lashinsky, Director of Economic Development, said that the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers has approved the wetlands plan for the new business park to be located at exit 81 of Interstate 80. A new map had to be done, and now there will be a 90 to 120 day period for public review and comment.

Once that is done, Lashinsky said work on buildings and roads could start next spring. Water and sewage lines running along Route 28 and underneath I-80 have already been completed.

The park, which consists of 166 acres, is estimated to cost $4.6 million and could bring between 250 and 500 jobs to the area.
