John Christopher Ramsey

Rev. John Christopher Ramsey, “Chris”, 73, of Hagerstown, MD, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by family and close friends, on January 2, 2019.

Born in July 1945, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of William Ramsey and Rhoda (Eckert) Ramsey.

Chris graduated from North Hagerstown High School and then Western Maryland College, now McDaniel College. He worked for several years at the Social Security Administration. He got the call to serve the Lord in ministry and attended Gettysburg Theological Seminary, now United Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA. He was ordained into the ministry of the word and sacrament of the Lutheran Church of America in 1986.

It was at seminary that he met the love of his love, Pastor Patricia (Harrington) Ramsey. He and Pat served for many years at churches in the Allegheny Synod. Upon retiring from the ministry, he moved back to Hagerstown and began volunteering at Trinity Lutheran which involved being the Pastor in Residence, serving on the Church Council, leading Bible studies, singing in the choir and preaching on occasion. He also served as interim pastor in Keedysville, Beaver Creek, and Hagerstown. His world travels include camping and hiking with his wife Pat in Nova Scotia, Germany, and France. He was also proud that he had visited all 50 states. His recent trips included Scotland, Alaska, and Italy.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, wife Pat, and brother, William Ramsey. He is survived by numerous cousins, many close friends, extended family, and his beloved cat Katie.

Services will be held Friday, January 11, 2019, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Avenue Hagerstown, MD. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. and lunch provided afterward. The Rev. Dr. David Eisenhuth and Bishop William Gohl will be officiating.

Interment will be at the Union Cemetery Luthersburg, PA on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. next to his wife Pat.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Randolph Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or to WETA, 3939 Campbell Avenue, Arlington, VA 22206.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
