Lee R. Courson, Jr.,

Lee R. Courson, Jr., 84, of Brookville passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the McKinley Health Center.

Born August 22, 1934 in Rolla, Missouri, he was the son of Leroy and Ola Josephine (Marlo) Courson.

On May 15, 1971 he married the love of his life, Joyce “Fritzie” Courson, who survives him. A 1959 geology graduate of the University of Missouri at Rolla School of Mines and Metallurgy, Lee’s early experience included work on the minute man installation project.

The bulk of his career was spent in the refractory industry. He was employed for many years with A.P. Green Refractories Company, initially in raw material development and later as plant manager of manufacturing at the Climax, PA facility. Lee concluded his career as the director of mining and exploration of Freeport Service and Supply Company. Lee will always be remembered for his love of golf at Pinecrest Country Club where he and Fritzie spent countless days enjoying the game with their large group of friends. He served as president of the Pinecrest Board of Directors and devoted countless hours of time using his astute financial acumen to help the club. Best described as a true gentleman, Lee was always polite, kind and generous, putting the needs of others before himself. A man of culture, he enjoyed rose gardening, classical musical and theatre. He was an avid reader with a vast breadth of historical knowledge. Lee also served the community as a longtime member of the Brookville Lions Club.

In addition to his wife, Lee is survived by four children, Charles Wingert of New Kensington, PA, Rex (Barbara) Courson of Humble, TX, Keith (Malyn) Courson and Mark Courson, both of Houston, TX, as well as three stepchildren, Becky (Elliott Metcalfe) Titus of Longboat Key, FL, Fredric (Dona) Ammerman of Clearfield and Beth (Thomas) Gerg of Brookville. He is also survived by grandchildren Christian Gerg, Julia and Lauren Ammerman, Rochelle Forbes, Jesse Miller, Drew, Michael, Rebekah, Benjamin and Andrew Courson, step grandchildren Cristina and Andrew, as well as fifteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Todd Courson and grandson Connor Gerg.

Public viewing will be held at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825, on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a service for family and friends remembrance to be held immediate thereafter. Memorials may be made to the Brookville YMCA, 155 Main Street, Brookville or to the McKinley Health Center, c/o WRC Senior Services, 985 Route 28, Brookville.
