Local Woman Announces Candidacy for Jefferson County Recorder

FALLS CREEK, Pa. – Citing her 19 years serving as the Executive Director of Jefferson County’s Solid Waste Authority, Donna Cooper has officially announced her bid to seek the Republican nomination for the Jefferson County Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds position.

As the Solid Waste Authority Executive Director, Cooper oversees a budget of $288,000.00 and supervises multiple employees. During her tenure, the Authority increased the amount of materials accepted for recycling and grew the County’s recycling to the highest rate in history. Additionally, Cooper was responsible for updating the County’s 10 year municipal solid waste management program and became one of the few counties in the state with a newspaper recycling program which is used by local family farms for animal bedding.

“My experience as Executive Director has taught me the importance of building relationships with our residents, local businesses, schools and municipal leaders. I believe the same can be said of the Register and Recorder’s Office, which is why I believe I am the best candidate for this position,” Cooper stated.

In addition to her experience at the Solid Waste Authority, Cooper is also serving in her fourth year as Washington Township Supervisor. In 2018, she was Chairman of the Board.

Cooper has strong roots in Jefferson County. She has lived here with her husband Bob for 20 years and together they operate the Cooper Farm Market, a family farm market that has been in operation for 47 years. The Cooper family farm dates back 178 years at the same location in Jefferson County.

Cooper is a lifelong member of the Republican party. She is an active public servant and takes pride in giving back to her community. She is an active member of the St. Bernard Church in Falls Creek. She is also a volunteer at Jefferson County Federation of Sportsmen Youth Field Day, a former 4-H leader and a volunteer at her children’s school.

The Register and Recorders Office is currently held by Diane Kiehl, who is not seeking re-election.

Cooper stated, “Diane Kiehl has been a strong public servant in Jefferson County. I hope to build on her efforts to make the Register and Recorders Office as streamlined and efficient as possible while providing the best quality service to the residents of Jefferson County.”

Donna lives in Beechwoods, Washington Township, with her husband and children Emma and Hayes.
