Margaret J. (Wedekind) Ratay

Margaret J. (Wedekind) Ratay, 95, of Heilwood, died Friday, February 15, 2019, at Saint Benedict Manor in Saint Benedict where she was a resident.

Born, July 17, 1923, on her family’s farm near Shippenville, Clarion County, she was a daughter of the late Doctor Craig Wedekind and Mary (Cohlhepp) Wedekind.

She was the widow of Edward Richard Ratay who died October 4, 1993.

Peg is remembered by many in the Heilwood area where she was the local beautician for more than 50 years. She touched many lives with her kindness and was a true friend to all. Peg, also known by many as “Ned,” had a strong sense of family, faith, and friendship.

She is survived by her son Craig R. Ratay (Jane), Parkland County, Alberta, Canada.

Peg will also be missed by the following grandchildren: Heidi (Marty); Nicki; Anais (Lee); Jonas (Céline); Bram (Brittany); and by great grandchildren: Mariya; Kai; Anders; Elyaen; Lachlan; Declan. Other survivors include: sister-in-law, Barb (Frank) and Shirley (Pete) and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by the following siblings: Hazel, Burl, Don, Pete and Frank and son-in-law, George Petras.

Friends will be received Monday, February 18th from 5 until 8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer.

Her funeral service will be Tuesday morning, February 19th at ten o’clock at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at the Wedekind Cemetery near her family homestead near Shippenville.

Peg’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to Laura Rose, Heather, and all of the loving staff and kind residents of St. Benedict Manor for their care and compassion. Also, a special thank you to 365 Hospice and devoted friends, Judy, Cloyd and Becky. Peg appreciated all of the family and friends who visited and cared.
