Marvin Douglas Gromley

Marvin Douglas Gromley, age 98, a longtime resident of Brookville, PA, passed peacefully on to his final rest on Thursday, May 25, 2017 after a brief illness at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.

He was born August 23, 1918 in Cherry Tree, Indiana, Pennsylvania, the youngest son of the late John and Sarah “Sadie” (Douglas) Gromley.

He served in WWII and was a member of the 6th Marine Division, 29th Marines, Company Pioneer Battalion, serving in the Pacific and attended Marine Corps reunions for more than 50 years.

He worked most of his life as an operating engineer, building roads and dams.

He was a Shriner, Mason, and active in his local Eagles and Fireman’s Clubs, and the First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Marjorie (Ferringer) Gromley, 11 brothers and sisters (Edgar, Cecil, Flay, Hope, Elizabeth, Elsie, Guy, John, Roy, Loy, and Thomas).

He is survived by one sister, Leona White of State College, one daughter Jody (Patrick) Gleason of West Palm Beach, and three grandchildren Brian, Colleen and Christopher (Jennie) all of West Palm Beach.

He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and life long friends.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 28, 2017, from 12noon to 2pm, at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825.

A funeral service with full military honors will immediately follow the viewing, beginning at 2:00pm, and officiated by Rev. Jim Dunn.

Interment will take place at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Twp., Jefferson Co. PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Fraternal Order of Eagles #983, 270 Main St., Brookville PA, 15825, or the First Baptist Church, 101 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.
