Police Foil Brookville Man’s Plan to Burglarize Home, Assault Resident

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A Brookville man is facing multiple felony charges after police were informed of his plan to burglarize a residence.

Court documents indicate the Brookville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 22-year-old David P. Long of Brookville.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:01 p.m. on Friday, April 20, Officer Turnbull contacted a man who claimed David Long wanted him to travel to Clearfield to rob an individual of a pound of marijuana and $7,000.00 cash.

The man stated the plan was to enter into a residence, zip tie the resident who lives in the basement of the residence and then take the marijuana and the money. The man also said he had Facebook messages of parts of the conversation. Officer Turnbull received the messages and verified the information.

The man contacted Officer Turnbull again with further information. He said that Long informed him it would take place on Saturday, April 21, after 4:00 p.m., when Long got off work in Brockway.

On Saturday, April 21, Officer Turnbull, with the assistance of Brockway Police Department, verified information about Long’s workplace.

According to the complaint, Long also told the known man that it was his intention to knock on the door and try to get into the residence, then subdue the resident and take the drugs and money. Long said they would park a short distance down the road at a church and then go to the residence. Officer Turnbull viewed the Facebook messages in which Long told the known man to wear all black and that this would occur in Clearfield. Long stated he would give further details while on the way to the target location.

Officer Turnbull contacted the Jefferson County District Attorney and informed him of the information. The District Attorney informed Officer Turnbull that he would like to attempt to get a consensual wire on the known man prior to Long’s arrival in order to gather further information prior to arresting Long.

The known man contacted Officer Turnbull again around 4:46 p.m. to tell him that Long called him and asked if he had gloves. Long said he would attempt to get the man leather gloves. The man informed Officer Turnbull that Long said he would meet him after 7:00 p.m. at his residence and explain the plan, and then they would travel to the target location.

Around 6:15 p.m., Officer Turnbull met with the known man, Chief Markle, and District Attorney Burkett to discuss the plan of action. Following the meeting, Officer Turnbull, Chief Markle, and the known man went to the known man’s house and awaited Long’s arrival. Long contacted the man by messenger and told him to go to a location along East Main Street in Brookville. At this time, a wire was activated on the man, and Officer Turnbull and Chief Markle went to the meeting location to set up overwatch ahead of the scheduled meeting.

At approximately 7:36 p.m., Officer Turnbull observed Long approaching the location in a Hyundai Santa Fe previously observed at Long’s workplace. The known man entered the vehicle, and the vehicle left.

Officer Turnbull contacted Cpl. Mactosh of the State Police to stop the vehicle. The vehicle traveled north on Richards Street where visual contact was lost. Officer Turnbull kept in contact with the known man via an open line on his phone and heard the man state Hill Top and he knew it to be a store located on U.S. 322 in Pinecreek Township. Cpl. Mactosh activated his emergency lights and stopped shortly behind the vehicle. Chief Markle and Officer Turnbull assisted on the stop and were given consent by Long to look in the vehicle. On the back seat, Officer Turnbull found a yellow bag containing black beanies and gloves. Also found in the vehicle were zip ties in a handcuff pattern, bandanas, a baseball bat, additional zip ties in bags, rubber gloves, and other gloves.

Long was transported to the Brookville Borough Police Department by Cpl. Mactosh where he signed a waiver and agreed to speak with Chief Markle and Officer Turnbill. Police said Long explained in detail that he bought zip ties and other material at Walmart earlier that day. Long said he reached out to a few other people who told him “No” before the known man agreed. Long also stated that his plan was to arrive at the residence, force his way in if necessary, kick the resident in the legs, smash his face off of something hard, zip tie his hands behind his her back, and take the money and controlled substances.
