Wet Roadway Causes One-Vehicle Crash in Sandy Township

SANDY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police say a one-vehicle crash occurred on Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 East, in Sandy Township, Clearfield County.

According to police, the crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, eastbound on I-80, at the 99.6 mile-marker.

As 21-year-old David W. Metcalf, of Bethany, OK, was traveling within the left lane of the roadway, he lost control of his 2018 Dodge Dart due to driving too fast for the wet roadway conditions, according to police.

The vehicle began to spin in a counterclockwise direction just prior to striking a PennDOT guide rail.

After impact, the vehicle continued to spin counterclockwise while traveling approximately 200 feet before coming to a final rest at the north berm, facing west.

Metcalf and two passengers – 48-year-old Jonnita R. Bond, of Shawnee, OK, and 67-year-old Janet J. Miller, of Lawton, OK – were using seat belts and were not injured.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage to its front end and was towed from the scene by Zimmerman’s Towing.
