The fire was contained to a basement apartment and damage was limited to that area.

The scene was cleared around 12:01 a.m.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Unit is investigating the incident.

According to a post on the Jeffersonian Democrat Facebook page, the newspaper was continuing to operated, but the newspaper office was expected to be closed on Tuesday due to the electricity being turned off in the building following the fire.
