Punxsy’s Groundhog Festival Kicks Off Saturday


PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) — The 2017 Punxsutawney Groundhog Festival will be held July 1-8.

There will be food vendors, crafters and plenty of things to do for the entire family.

Saturday, the Old Home Week Fireman’s Parade begins at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a performance by 7 Mile Run at 6 p.m.

Sunday, registration for the Park & Shine (Cruz In) runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held from 1-4 p.m. in the Powell parking lot across from Barclay Square. Registration will be by donation. Dash plaques will be given to the first 75 entries.

Also on Sunday, the Steel City Quartet will perform two shows, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m.

New Journey Ministry will perform from 2:00-3 p.m. and The Vogues will perform two show, 6:30-7:30 p.m. and 8-9 p.m.

Monday’s schedule includes the Diaper Derby and Tot Trot from 9-11 a.m.

Also, Granpa Cratchet Strolling is from 9-10:30 a.m. and the Granpa Cratchet Show will be held twice, from noon-1 p.m. and 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Tres Lads will also play two shows, 7:30-8:30 p.m. and 9-10 p.m.

Tuesday, the Granpa Cratchet Show will be held from 11 a.m.-noon and 4-5 p.m. Granpa Cratchet Strolling is from 1-2 p.m.

The Belle Tones will play from 2-3 p.m. and 3:45 to 4:30 p.m.

Josh Squared will perform from 7-8 p.m. and 8:30-9:30 p.m.

The fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Granpa Cratchet Strolling is from 9-11 a.m. and the Granpa Cratchet Show is from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.

The Teddy Bear Parade and Picnic will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Barclay Square. The parade of teddy bears and their owners will commence at 10 A.M.

The first 100 entries in the popular festival attraction will receive a teddy bear memento. There is a limit of one gift per entry.

Four categories of teddy bears are sought for this year’s parade and picnic: My Bear & I (Dressed Alike) Transportation Cart, My Bear & I (Dressed Alike) Individual, Noah’s Ark Two by Two, Fourth of July Bear.

In the event of rain, the parade and picnic will be moved to the F.O. Eagles building on East Mahoning Street directly across from Barclay Square.

The Josh Knotts show is from 11:30 a.m.-noon and 2-2:30 p.m.

The 22nd Annual Community Center 5K/2-Mile Walk begins at 7 p.m.

The Brighton Boys will perform from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and 9-10 p.m.

Thursday, the day begins with the 3-Wheel and Scooter Race at 9 a.m.

Also, Granpa Cratchet Strolling is from 9-11 a.m. and the Granpa Cratchet Show is from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.

The Josh Knotts show is from 11:30 a.m.-noon and 2-2:30 p.m.

The Large Flowerheads will play from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and 9-10 p.m.

Friday, the Kids Tractor Pull will be held in Barclay Square. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. There are three age categories: 4&5, 6&7, and 8&9.

The pull will begin at 10 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded to the winner in every age group.

Also, Granpa Cratchet Strolling is from 9-11 a.m. and the Granpa Cratchet Show is from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.

The Josh Knotts show is from 11:30 a.m.-Noon and 2:00-2:30 p.m.

Seth Cook will perform from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and from 9-10 p.m.

Saturday, the Granpa Cratchet Show is from 11 a.m. noon and 4-5 p.m. Granpa Cratchet Strolling is from 1-2 p.m.

The Moore Brothers will play from 1-3 p.m. and Green River, the Creedance Clearwater Revival tribute band will perform from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and from 9-10 p.m.
