Relay for Life Slated for Today at Brookville Town Square

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Jefferson County’s 2018 Relay for Life is making a switch from the Jefferson County Fairgrounds to Brookville’s Town Square for the annual event to honor those who have bravely fought cancer.

For Relay for Life Community Development Manger, Nikki Carey, it is a move that she is hoping will bring out even more people who have bravely stood up to cancer.

“By making ourselves more visible in the town square, we are hoping for an even greater community turnout as we seek to grow the community awareness of all the brave individuals in our communities. We’re basically bringing Relay right to the people and for many it will not be inconvenient to stop by and see what is going on this year.”

Carey went on to explain that organizers felt that they would have a special opportunity to capitalize on foot traffic while also being the center of attention in the community for the day.

Carey is confident that there is something that everybody of all ages can enjoy on the schedule for the day. Anyone who enjoys board games will want to check out the events as Carey said that this year’s theme is “Knock Cancer Off the Board.”

Carey noted that there will also be plenty of food and raffles available as well as they narrow in on their $79,000 goal. Heading into Saturday morning, that total stood at $72,641.

While Carey is excited for the move to the town square, she is quick to point out that nothing would be possible without the Relay teams and sponsors.

“The teams that have signed up are just amazing. They have been absolutely amazing with their year long fundraising efforts. The amount of money that they are able to bring in each year is very impressive for a county of our size.”

“We also could not do any of this without our sponsors. Relay for Life really provides a unique opportunity for businesses to align themselves with a trusted organization while also working with our local folks.”

So if you find yourself in the Brookville area today, swing by town square and see all the incredible work done by these fine individuals and take the opportunity to honor someone you may know that has been afflicted with cancer.
