Rodney Merle Joyner

Rodney Merle Joyner, 71, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018, as a patient of the Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital.

He was born on January 3, 1947, to the late George Merle and Fannie Irene (Williams) Joyner, in DuBois, PA.

Rodney graduated from DuBois High School with the class of 1966. After seeing her for the first time in ninth grade, Rodney declared “I’m going to marry that girl someday” and on November 25, 1967, one year after they graduated together, Rodney married the love of his life, Louise Mae (Carns) Joyner, at the Salvation Army in DuBois, PA; Louise survives him.

Rodney and Louise spent their lives in joining dedication and full devotion as Christians spreading the love and charity of Christ. They have been members of the Smithtown Church in Falls Creek, where they were baptized, the Gospel Center, Rockton Church, and most recently the Lighthouse Church of DuBois while also attending the Oasis Church in DuBois. Rodney was able to fill in for Pastors in multiple churches as was needed.

He served time honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His working career began with Jackson China, and after twenty years they closed their doors, and he moved into a position with Brockway Glass. After another twenty years of working he retired in 2006.

Those who knew Rodney seldom met a more selfless person. He was constantly thinking about and doing for others. He was very concerned for his family and was always available with loving advice and a non-judgmental demeanor. He was famous for his jokes which were always clean and uplifting, and he seemingly had a never-ending supply of them.

He loved fishing and taking time out to spend with his children and grandchildren. Rodney had a great talent for painting, both large and intricate things. He liked watching NASCAR, WWE Wrestling, messing with Antique Cars, and he loved singing.

Rodney was a family man all the way through; he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Rodney is survived by one son, George M. Joyner; two daughters, Waneta L. Joyner and Dawn M. (Frank) Corso; five granddaughters, Angel, Julie, Christina, Seleyna, and Natalia; and two grandsons, Michael and Landon; and he had one great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by many extended family members.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, April 22, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main St., Reynoldsville, PA. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018, also at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 a.m., and officiated by Rev. Dean Smith; full military honors will be rendered. Interment will be handled privately at the family’s convenience.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Lighthouse Church of DuBois, 1147 Behringer Highway, DuBois, PA, 15801.
