Rudesyle Tosses 1-Hit Shutout as Clarion Softball Blanks C-L

CLARION, Pa. (D9Sports) – Sadie Rudesyle knew she was one out away from a five-inning no-hitter Friday and was frustrated she couldn’t close the deal.

Relisten to the game.

But the Clarion senior was overall happy with her one-hit, one-walk, six-strikeout performance in a 13-0, five-inning Lady Cats win over neighboring rival Clarion-Limestone at Paul A. Weaver Park.

“Yes, I understood (I had a no-hitter going),” Rudesyle said. “I was kind of frustrated with myself. I kind of felt I could have pushed it a little more. But, I think it was a good first home game for myself.”

Listen to what Rudesyle, the Hager Paving Player of the Game who also added two hits and an RBI, had to say about the game.

Ori Walters two-out single in the fifth broke up Rudesyle’s no-hit bid, but pretty much everything else went Clarion’s way giving the Lady Cats their second win in three tries on the young season.

Clarion scored runs in all four of its at-bats including multiple runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Brenna Campbell had three hits, including a triple, while her courtesy runner (she was the catcher) Ava Kiser scored twice.

Kate Constantino, Carly Best and Maya Thornton joined Rudesyle with two hits each with Constantino, who had a triple, also scoring three times and driving in two, Best scoring three times and driving in one and Thornton scoring twice and driving in three.

Alexis Constantino added a run scored and a pair of RBIs as well.

“We just kept talking about waiting on the ball,” Rudesyle said. “I think what Kaitlyn (Constantino) thought, not a big hit, just make full contact with it. I think that just comforted us a little bit. It wasn’t difficult. We just had to adjust and wait on it. I think once (Kait) hit it, it just made it easier on all of us.”

The hit Rudesyle was referring to was a one-out, two-run triple to deep center by Kait Constantino on a 3-2 pitch from Megan Stahlman in the second inning that gave Clarion a 3-0 lead at the time.

The Lady Cats went on to add three more runs in the second to take a 6-0 advantage and then scored four times in the third with Thornton having a two-run single to make it 10-0 before adding three more runs in the fourth against reliever Karleigh Aaron.

Many of Clarion’s 15 hits weren’t necessarily hit hard but they were hit where C-L defenders weren’t.

“Yeah, you can get a good hit, but if it goes directly to someone it won’t matter,” Rudesyle said. “But if you get it right in the perfect hole, it can really go along way. You can get a couple of extra bases out of it.”

Clarion (2-1 overall, 1-0 KSAC) is slated to return to action Monday at home against Moniteau, while C-L (0-1, 0-1) is back in action Monday as well when it hosts Union. Of course, both games are subject to the weather and field conditions.
