Thursday’s HS Baseball/Softball Roundup: Clearfield Baseball Walks Off Punxsutawney

HYDE, Pa. (D9Sports) – A pitcher duel in Clearfield County saw sophomore right-hander Eli Glass get his second complete-game win of the season by tossing a four-hitter in a 3-2 Clearfield win over visiting Punxsutawney.

Glass, who allowed two earned runs while walking two and striking out one, hooked up in a fantastic performance with the Chucks Brandon Matthews, who gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Glass retired 17 of 19 batters at one points before walking his second batter with one out in the seventh and then got out of a two-on, two-out jam to keep the game tied at two.

Matthews was then removed from the game in favor of Joey Dipietro in the seventh, and Will Myers had an infield hit and moved to second on a groundout setting up a game-winning single into the left-field corner by Reese Wilson, who had a pair of hits in the game, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

DUBOIS 11, BRADFORD 0, 5 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Braden Paulinellie was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs to lead DuBois to an 11-0 win over visiting Bradford in five innings.

Colin Read and Ryan Pasternak each added a pair of RBIs with Read doubling, and Mitch Ferra was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Buddy Lines pitched two innings in relief to get the win allowing one hit and a walk while striking out four.

Caleb Nuzzo had Bradford’s lone hit.

Caleb Huntoon took the loss going three innings allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks.

KARNS CITY 10, CLARION-LIMESTONE 0, 6 INNINGS

BUTLER, Pa. – Tyler Yough tossed a five-hit, six-inning shutout, as Karns City downed visiting Clarion-Limestone 10-0 in six innings at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.

Cullen Williams led the Gremlins offense going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Markus Lantz also had a hit and two RBIs, while Yough doubled and was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in helping his own cause. Also for KC, Stephen O’Donnell had a pair of hits, two walks and two runs scored and Jimmy Thompson added a hit and two runs scored.

Colby Himes went 2-for-3 to pace C-L.

Sam Leadbetter took the loss giving up eight runs, only one earned, on nine hits and three walks while striking out three in four innings of work.

UNION 10, FOREST AREA 0, 5 INNINGS

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Reice Saylor, Luke Bowser and Dana Logue combined on five-inning no hitter, as Union beat Forest Area 10-0 in five.

Saylor struck out five, Bowser struck out two and walked two and Logue struck out two.

Quintin Crissman was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Golden Knights offense. Lucas Bowser was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Isaac Yoder also drove in three.

SOFTBALL

CENTRAL-MARTINSBURG 17, CLEARFIELD 4, 5 INNINGS

HYDE, Pa. – Olivia Smith led a 15-hit Central-Martinsburg attack with three singles while driving in two runs and scoring three times to help the Lady Dragons to a 17-4, five-inning win at Clearfield.

Cassie Mock added a pair of hits, including a double, and four RBIs for Central, while Tierney Ferandes and Cam Feathers both had two hits with a double each.

Aspen Bishop hit a two-run first-inning home run for Clearfield, while Lindsay Hand and Brooke Cline each added doubles.

Kate Thompson got the win going five innings allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while also hitting a batter. She struck out one.

Abby Fedder took the loss giving up eight runs, two earned, on eight hits while striking out two in three innings of work.
