PINECREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An investigation is underway into the death of an inmate of the Jefferson County Jail.
The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop C, Criminal Investigation Unit, has been assigned to conduct an investigation into the death of 24-year-old David Eugene Aikens.
Police say Aikens was an inmate at the Jefferson County Jail who had been on the work release program.
Aikens was returning to the jail on July 21 around 5:00 p.m. when he suffered a medical emergency.
He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital where he passed away.
The investigation is ongoing.
