UPDATE: Federal, State Officials Investigating Deadly Mining Accident in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – State and federal officials are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at a Rosebud Mining site in Snyder Township, Jefferson County on Tuesday.

According to Jim Barker, Executive Vice President at Rosebud Mining Company, federal and state safety officials were still at the scene investigating the accident as of 11:00 a.m.

Jefferson County Coroner Brenda Shumaker said the 27-year-old male victim, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at 6:01 p.m. on Tuesday following an accident near the Kocjancic Mine Project just outside of Brockway.

The accident, which occurred around 4:00 p.m., is also being investigated by DuBois-based State Police.

Shumaker said an autopsy was scheduled to be performed on Wednesday.

It is believed that the accident was equipment-related.

Additional details are expected to be released within 48 hours.
