Vehicle Crashes into Tree Off Route 949

UNION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a driver veered off the road and struck a tree off Route 949 in Union Township on Monday evening.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 6:25 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 21-year-old Zachary J. Rakar, of Allison Park, was traveling north on State Route 949, just north of Monks Road, in Union Township, Jefferson County.

Police say Rakar was traversing a slight left curve in the roadway and down a small grade when he veered off the roadway and his 2016 Nissan Infiniti struck a drainage ditch and slid into a tree.

Rakar was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Leadbetter’s Towing.

Rakar was charged with a traffic violation.
