Wagner, Barletta Win Republican Nominations

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – Republicans Scott Wagner and Lou Barletta won nominations to run against Democratic incumbents Governor Tom Wolf and Senator Bob Casey on Tuesday.

Wagner defeated two first-time candidates from the Pittsburgh area, Paul Mango and Laura Ellsworth, to win the Republican nomination for governor. In 2014, Wagner was the first write-in candidate to win election to the Pennsylvania State Senate.

Locally, Mango was the favored candidate, beating Wagner by over 300 votes in Jefferson County. Out of the 37 precincts in Jefferson County, Wagner took 37% of the votes (1,344 votes), while Mango won nearly 47% (1,718 votes), and Ellsworth won 15% (557 votes).

In the state overall, Wagner won 44% (323,714 votes), while Mango took almost 37% (269,820), and Ellsworth won about 19% (137,500).

Incumbent Democrat Governor Tom Wolf ran unopposed and took nearly 100% of the votes with 1,104 votes in Jefferson County and 741,258 votes statewide.

Lou Barletta, a four-term U.S. Representative who best known for his opposition to illegal immigration, defeated rival state Rep. Jim Christiana for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.

Out of the 37 precincts in Jefferson County, Barletta won 52% of the votes (1,772 votes), while Christiana took almost 48% (1,627 votes). In the state overall, Barletta won 63% of the votes (429,760 votes), while Christiana lagged with just 37% (251,720 votes).
