William Henry Meterko

William H. Meterko, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.

He was born February 29, 1928 in Delaney, a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Oslick) Meterko.

On June 25, 1949 he married Irene Elizabeth Carol. She preceded him in death on June 05, 2012.

He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, where he was also a member of the Men’s Fraternity, as well as the Greek Catholic Union.

Mr. Meterko was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II as a Military Policeman.

Bill worked for B&O Railroad for many years.

He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He loved hunting,being outdoors and spending time with his family, which included numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Irene, brother Andrew J Meterko and sister, Barbara Meterko.

Surviving relatives include one sister, Helen Walchack of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 2-6 pm at Shumaker Funeral Home, inc., Punxsutawney. A Panachida service will be held at 5:30 p.m. At the funeral home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Father William Lascelles.

Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Byzantine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 714 Sutton Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
