Witness Leads Police to DUI Crash Suspect

PERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police are investigating a suspected DUI-related crash that occurred on Tuesday evening in Perry Township.

Around 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22, Punxsutawney-based State Police were dispatched to Route 536 near Saint John’s Road for a motor vehicle accident involving one vehicle that was over an embankment.

Upon their arrival, the troopers observed a white Volkswagen SUV that had struck a guide rail, traveled off the roadway, and gone over an embankment.

The driver of the vehicle was not present at the scene; however, a witness arrived during the investigation and provided information about the identity and location of the driver.

The troopers then traveled to the provided address and made contact with the driver, a 33-year-old Punxsutawney man, who was subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for a blood draw.

The man’s name was not released.

The investigation is ongoing.
