Woman Accused of DUI with Infant in Car

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A 23-year-old woman is facing child endangerment charges in Jefferson County after she allegedly drove while intoxicated with an infant in her vehicle.

Court documents indicate that the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 23-year-old Tana Shae Tew of Osterburg, Bedford County.

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:19 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, Tpr. Lowry of the Punxsutawney-based State Police was dispatched to a report of an erratic driver along State Route 119.

According to the complaint, Tpr. Lowry requested that Tew step out of the vehicle and submit to standard field sobriety testing, but Tew refused. Tpr. Lowry then performed horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) testing while Tew was in the vehicle and discovered indicators of impairment.

Tew was then arrested and placed in the back of the patrol vehicle.

According to the complaint, a search of Tew’s vehicle was conducted and a small amount of suspected marijuana, pills, and two “bowls” were located.

Tew had her infant child in the back seat of the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

Tew was then transported to the Punxsutawney Emergency Room for a blood test, which she refused.
