Woman Rushed to Hospital Following New Year’s Day Head-On Crash

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a woman was transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital following a head-on crash that occurred on New Year’s Day in Young Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, around 2:04 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 84-year-old Wilmer L. McQuown of Punxsutawney was operating a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina, traveling south on State Route 119, and 32-year-old Paul T. Radowicz of Lower Burrell was operating a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, traveling north on State Route 119.

Police say as both vehicles approached the intersection of State Route 119 and Snyder Hill Road in Young Township, coming from opposite directions, McQuown attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Snyder Hill Road and failed to yield the right-of-way to Radowicz.

McQuown’s vehicle crossed through the intersection into oncoming traffic and struck Radowicz’s vehicle head-on.

McQuown, Radowicz, and two of Radowicz’s passengers, a 9-year-old juvenile male and a 10-year-old juvenile female, were all wearing seatbelts. Another passenger in Radowicz’s vehicle, 33-year-old Mallory M. Radowicz of Lower Burrell, was not wearing a seatbelt.

Mallory Radowicz suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported, along with the two juvenile passengers, who were not injured, to Punxsutawney Area Hospital by Jefferson County EMS.

McQuown and Paul Radowicz were not injured.

McQuown was cited for a traffic violation.

Radowicz’s vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.

McQuown’s vehicle required towing and was towed from the scene by Reybuck’s Southside Towing.

Both Punxsutawney Fire Departments assisted at the scene with traffic control.
