Woman, Two Infants Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash on Route 28

PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, a three-vehicle collision occurred Wednesday afternoon on State Route 28, in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 30-year-old Erika R. Yates, of DuBois; 29-year-old Jazmine J. Kunes, of Ridgway; and 32-year-old Thomas S. Byerly, of Brookville were involved in the accident.

Police say around 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, a 2008 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Yates; a 2013 Toyota Prius, driven by Kunes; and a 2011 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Byerly, were all traveling northbound on Route 28.

According to police, Yates became distracted and hit Kunes’ Toyota that was stopped, and the Toyota hit Byerly’s Chevrolet that was also stopped.

The Hyundai came to a rest off the eastbound shoulder of Route 28, facing northeast.

The Toyota came to a final rest in the northbound lane of Route 28, facing north.

The Chevrolet came to a final rest in a private driveway on the westbound shoulder of Route 28.

Yates and two infant passengers in Kunes’ Toyota were taken to Brookville Hospital for suspected minor injuries.

All occupants of the vehicles were using seatbelts.

All vehicles were towed from the scene by McPherson Autobody.

Jefferson County EMS assisted at the scene.

Yates was charged with a traffic violation.
