Penn State Baseball Shutouts Pitt, 7-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EYT) – Three Penn State pitchers combined on a 3-hit shutout, as the Nittany Lions downed rival Pitt, 7-0, Tuesday night at Medlas Field at Lubrano Park in State College.

Lefty Nick Hedge, allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out five in six inning of work to get the win.

Dakota Forsyth (2 IP, 1 BB, 3 Ks) and Jared Fagnano (1 IP, 1 H, 1 K) followed with near perfect innings of relief.

Tyler Kendall, meanwhile, drove home three for Penn State, which scored three first-inning runs to set the tone early.

Greg Guers added a pair of RBIs, while Nick Riotto was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Conlin Hughes was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Ron Sherman had a pair of hits for Pitt.

Sam Mersing took the loss going four innings and allowing six runs, all earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.

Penn State has now won seven in a row and 11 of 13 to improve to 16-12 on the season. The Nittany Lions return to action at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday when they host Lafayette.

Pitt, which has now dropped 3 of 4, falls to 13-12 overall. The Panthers are next in action Friday when they start a three-game home series with Georgia Tech in ACC play.
