  • T.J. Oshie scored twice and added an assist as Washington spoiled Mike Sullivan’s debut with a 4-1 win on Monday night. The victory propelled the Capitals into the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings and 11 points clear of their struggling rivals.
  • The Clarion women’s basketball team was on fire offensively in the first half but was unable to hold off Wheeling Jesuit at home, as the Golden Eagles fell by 71-60 score to the Cardinals at Tippin Gymnasium on Monday night.
  • The Blackhawks traded Trevor Daley, 32, to the Penguins on Monday night for veteran defenseman Rob Scuderi. The 36-year-old Scuderi has four assists and 32 blocked shots in 25 games this season and has won two Stanley Cups, with the Penguins in 2009 and with the Kings in 2012.
  • The Steelers’ Dec. 27 game against Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium was changed from an 8:30 p.m. kickoff to 1 p.m. as part of the NFL’s flex scheduling.
  • Sunday’s victory in Cincinnati was far from the most statistically gaudy performance Roethlisberger has had recently, but it might have best shown how “on fire” he is as a passer.
