83-Year-Old Man Struck by Minivan in Punxsutawney

Crime SceneYOUNG TOWNSHIP (EYT)– Punxsutawney-based State Police report a pedestrian vs. vehicle crash occurred at 9:20 a.m. on August 27 in the parking lot of WalMart in Young Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, the collision occurred as James I. Horne, 67, of Reynoldsville, had parked his 2007 Chevrolet Uplander LS in front of WalMart to allow a passenger to exit.

As the passenger exited the vehicle, Horne began to back up striking Robert G. Mahan, 83, of Punxsutawney as he was walking in the crosswalk toward the store entrance.

Mahan sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital by Jefferson County EMS.

Horne was uninjured in the crash and has been cited for a Limitation on Backing violation.
