Elderly Woman Thwarts Armed Robbery Attempt in Punxsy

Police CarPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Authorities say an elderly woman stopped an armed robbery attempt late Friday morning in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County.

Punxsutawney Borough Police say the incident happened around 11:09 a.m. in the parking of the Punxsy Plaza near Uni-Mart.

An unknown white male wearing a brown jacket and an orange knit cap attempted to rob an elderly woman at gun point, according to police.

Punxsutawney Police Chief James Borza says the victim fooled the suspect by saying “there’s the police!”. The suspect subsequently dropped the gun and kicked it under a car before fleeing the scene.

The gun turned out to be a “look-a-like BB gun,” according to Chief Borza.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Punxsutawney Borough Police at 814-938-6220.
