Vernon Glenn Caylor

1828891_profile_picVernon Glenn Caylor, 100, Punxsutawney, died Saturday, July 16th, 2016, at home.

He was the son of the late Vernon Scott Caylor and Mary Agnes Barnett Caylor, he was born in Ringgold Township, Jefferson County, PA on June 15, 1916. He was married for 75 years to Eleanor Margaret Snyder, they were married on January 21, 1939.

Mr. Caylor was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Punxsutawney. He earlier had served as a church lay speaker, a Sunday school superintendent and a class teacher.

He was a Farm Bureau and Agway director and served on the Jefferson County Conservation Board for many years. He had belonged to the Lions Club and was a district officer. He was a member of the Salvation Army Board for several years.

For most of his life, Mr. Caylor was a dairy farmer in Ringgold Township. Later he was the owner and operator of the G and E Coal Company.

Mr. Caylor was an avid hunter and fisherman. A highlight of his life was his hunting trip on a safari to Africa.

He played his accordion for his own pleasure and for the enjoyment of others.

Surviving relatives include seven children: Barbara Aaron and husband Neal of Charlotte, NC; Myron Caylor and partner Mel Samuelowitz of Icklingham, England; George Caylor and wife JoAnne of Lynchburg, VA; Marilyn Caylor of Summerville, SC; Susan Funderburk and husband Memmon of Dunwoody, GA; Gary Caylor and wife Donna of Fayetteville, AR; and Ellen Schneider and husband Mark of Raleigh, NC.

Seven grandchildren: Andrea Baugher and husband Cory of Columbus, OH; Allison Chamberlain and husband Justin of Kathmandu, Nepal; Penny Sullivan-Green and husband Russell, of Bridgeport, TX; Scott Caylor and wife Karmen of Spring, TX; Gina Caylor of Alameda, CA; Michael Schneider of Roanoke, VA; and Daniel Schneider of Morrisville, NC; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, his parents, his brothers Paul and Earl, and his sisters Minnie Lingenfelter and Velma Ferguson.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the funeral home, with Pastor Kenneth Alt officiating.

Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Caylor, may be made to the Salvation Army of Punxsutawney, 229 West Mahoning Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
