Police Release Details of Single Vehicle ATV Crash that Left DuBois Teen Seriously Injured

BRADY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A single-vehicle ATV crash that occurred on May 14 in Brady Township, Clearfield County, left a DuBois teen seriously injured.

The incident took place on Bancosky Road and involved a 2019 Can-Am Defender DPS HD8 “side-by-side” ATV.

According to a report released on May 25 by DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police, the ATV veered off the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with a mailbox. After the initial impact, the vehicle returned to the roadway and rolled onto its passenger side.

During the crash, the passenger, 18-year-old Tanner J. Davis of DuBois, was ejected from the ATV and dragged underneath it for a short distance until the vehicle came to a stop. Davis sustained serious injuries and was transported by a passerby to Penn Highlands DuBois for medical treatment, according to the report.

It is unknown what safety equipment the men were using at the time of the crash.

The driver of the ATV, Zachary R. Shilala, 20 of Sykesville, left the scene with the assistance of a friend and did not seek medical attention for his suspected minor injuries, says the report.

The ATV was subsequently removed from the scene by Davis’ brother and his friend, who transported it to the Davis’ mother’s residence prior to the arrival of State Police.

PSP noted in their report that Shilala failed to immediately report the crash to the authorities.
