Bernard Himes, the son of Reed Malcom Himes and Phyllis Theresa Himes, was 58378029_130262326364
born in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County. Himes was raised in Anita before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. in April 1967.

He was deployed to Vietnam in February of 1968 as a Lance Corporal in the 1st Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 27th Marines, I Company. Himes served as an Assault Amphibious Vehicle Repair Technician.

Himes was killed on May 17, 1968, in a bomb explosion near the Dodge City Sector of Go Noi Island, Le Nam, South Vietnam.

He is buried in Anita Cemetery in Anita, Jefferson County.
