Joseph graduated from Brockway Schools, attending school during the day and working at Brockway Glass at night during his senior year.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS New Mexico in the South Pacific during World War II. During that time, his ship participated in all of the major battles leading to the surrender of Japan. His ship was in Tokyo Bay alongside the USS Missouri where the signing of the surrender took place.

Following his discharge, Joseph returned to Brockway and his work at Brockway Glass as a mold maker where he eventually retired with 45 years of service.

He was one of the original members of the Parson-Marnati Post 95 of the American Legion in Brockway and remained a member his entire life.

Joseph served on the Board of Directors of the Brockway Borough Municipal Authority and Brockway Television Inc. for more than thirty years.

He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his property and yard and raising pigeons, a hobby he started in his youth.

He was a lifelong member of St. Tobias Catholic Church where he was baptized, confirmed and married.

In August of 1948, he was married to Helen Pinchock Bruno. They were married for more than 67 years until her passing this past May.
