Lewis C. Dittman, son of the late Clifford Eugene and Rachel Brothers Dittman, was born in Richland Township, Clarion County. Dittman joined the United States Army on August 16, 1943.
During World War II, he served in New Guinea and with the liberation of the Philippines.
Dittman earned the Good Conduct Medal; The Bronze Arrowhead; World War II Victory Medal; the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with two Bronze Stars; the Philippine Liberation Theater Medal with on Bronze Star; and the Combat Infantry Badge for his service.
Dittman was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in January of 1946 with the rank of corporal.
Following his service, Dittman worked as a truck driver and was affiliated with the Teamsters Union of Kittanning.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7073 of Parker and was a life member and past commander of American Legion Post 636 of Foxburg.
Dittman passed away on May 4, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
