Annabel I. Oakes died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Jefferson Manor in Brookville, Pa. where she had been a resident.
Annabel was born on September 19, 1917 in Jefferson Co., Pa. She was the daughter of Olive Cochran Oakes and Elmer Oakes. She worked as a school teacher for the Brookville Area School District in Elementary Education for 37 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Brookville, Pa. where she was a member of the church choir, a Sunday school teacher, and was active in church affairs; She was a graduate of the Clarion Normal School, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma for Education of Women, and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #320 in Brookville, Pa.. Annabel enjoyed her family, traveling, crossword puzzles, and reading her Bible.
Annabel was the last surviving sibling of her immediate family. She is preceded in death by both parents, her sister Betty Jean Reed, and three Brothers – Andy Oakes, Paul Oakes, and Merle Oakes.
Friends may call at McKinney Funeral Home in Brookville, Pa. Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted at First Baptist Church in Brookville Pa. on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2 p.m with Rev. David Borger. Interment will be in Richardsville Cemetery following the service.
