Area Man Accused of Driving Motorcycle With Counterfeit Plate, Suspended Driver’s License

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An area man is facing charges after police discovered he was using a counterfeit license plate on a motorcycle and operating the bike with a suspended driver’s license.

According to court documents, DuBois-based State Police filed the following criminal charges against 38-year-old Shawn Paul Cutlip, of Falls Creek, in Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office on June 27:

– Fraud Alter/Forge/Counterfeit Title Reg Ins, Misdemeanor 1
– Poss/Sale/Use Display Documents, Misdemeanor 1
– Drg Lic Sus/Rev Purs to Sec 3802/154B1 – 3rd or Subs. Violation, Misdemeanor 3
– Driving Unregistered Vehicle, Summary
– Operating Vehicle without Valid Inspection, Summary

According to a criminal complaint, a trooper was in a police cruiser at the stop sign located at the intersection of Beechtree Road and Airport Road, in Washington Township, Jefferson County, and observed a red and black motorcycle pass a sedan while heading west around 8:30 p.m. on June 16.

The trooper was able to positively identify Shawn Cutlip as the operator through past interactions with him. The trooper followed Cutlip’s bike to address an outstanding fingerprint order for him from a 2020 incident, the complaint states.

The officer observed Cutlip pull into the driveway of a residence along Washington Avenue and attempted to make contact with the suspect. While pulling into the driveway, he observed the red and black motorcycle displayed what appeared to be a Pennsylvania registration of “STR8 HO,” the complaint indicates.

As the officer was exiting the cruiser, he observed Cutlip open the door of the residence and walk outside. He identified himself and had a brief conversation regarding the fingerprint order, the complaint notes.

After speaking with Cutlip, the officer began walking back to his vehicle when he noticed the plate on the motorcycle to be a novelty, counterfeit plate. The plate was partially spray painted and had “Appalachian Trail Conservancy” on the bottom, the complaint states.

Police then ran the plate and Cutlip through the system and discovered the plate showed no record and that Cutlip had a DUI suspended license that expired on June 25, 2011. While attempting to locate the VIN number for the motorcycle, a counterfeit inspection sticker was observed by police.

A certified driver’s history of Cutlip showed he had previously been cited seven times for driving while suspended, the complaint indicates.

He was arraigned in front of Judge Inzana at 9:30 a.m. on June 28 on the above-listed charges.

His bail was set at $15,000.00 unsecured.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 14, at 11:00 a.m. with Judge Inzana presiding.

Cutlip Faces Assault and Terroristic Threats Charges in Separate Case

In a separate incident, DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against Shawn Cutlip on June 20.

According to a criminal complaint, PSP DuBois responded to a report of a possible domestic at a residence along Washington Avenue, in Falls Creek Borough, Jefferson County, around 7:18 p.m. on June 18.

While on the scene, a known female victim reported to police that Shawn Cutlip threatened to “beat (her) the (expletive) up,” and over a voicemail stated, “I’m so looking forward to turning you into a (expletive) vegetable for the rest of your life,” according to the complaint.

Police were informed Cutlip had fled the scene on a red and black motorcycle prior to their arrival.

While police were still at the residence, a sports bike matching the above description rode past. Troopers attempted to flag down the driver, later identified as Cutlip, but he continued to ride past and soon passed a vehicle in the oncoming lane over the double yellow lines, the complaint indicates.

Police then discovered the motorcycle at a residence located along Main Street in Falls Creek Borough. Cutlip was observed near the location of the sports bike in between two houses. He was detained and interviewed regarding the domestic incident, according to the complaint.

It was determined that Cutlip matched the description of the rider that passed the Washington Avenue residence. A query by police showed his license listed a suspended DUI-related. A driver’s license history completed by police showed seven previous suspended license offenses. Cutlip was subsequently taken into custody, the complaint notes.

During a search incident to arrest, police discovered a small amount of marijuana on Cutlip along with paraphernalia, the complaint states.

While at the station, Cutlip admitted to smoking marijuana earlier on June 18, around 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

He was transported to Penn Highlands DuBois for a legal blood draw and then transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

Cutlip was arraigned at 10:44 a.m. on June 19, in front of Judge Inzana on the following charges:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 1
