Army and Navy Battle for Culinary Superiority at 102nd PA Farm Show Cook-Off

HARRISBURG, Pa. – On Thursday, Team Navy claimed victory during the Army v. Navy Cook-Off on the PA PreferredTM Culinary Connection Stage at the 102nd Pennsylvania Farm Show.

The third annual culinary competition was the centerpiece of Military, Veterans and their Families Day, a full day of events honoring veterans for their service to our country.

Navy Culinary Specialist First Class Frida Karani, enlisted the aid of Trenice Bishop and Andrea Michaels, morning news anchors at WPMT Fox 43. The Navy team was pitted against Pentagon Chef to the Secretary of the Army, Adalberto Campos, and his teammates, Ali Lanyon and James Crummel, WHTM abc27 morning news anchors, in an Iron Chef-style cook-off.
Teams were given 30 minutes to prepare and plate dishes using PA PreferredTM, Pennsylvania- grown, locally sourced items revealed and provided to them when the clock started.

Judges for the event were Barry Crumlich, Executive Chef at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence; John Moeller, former White House Chef and Author of “Dining at the White House – From the President’s Table to Yours”; Bob Langol, Senior Director of Military & Veteran Affairs at NBCUniversal; and Lieutenant Charles Andrews, retired U.S. Naval aviator.
The event was sponsored by Comcast NBCUniversal, Thermador, and PA PreferredTM.

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the nation’s largest indoor agricultural event, featuring 12,000 competitive exhibits, 5,200 of which are animal events, plus 300 commercial exhibitors — more than a million square feet of entertainment and education highlighting the strength and diversity of Pennsylvania’s agriculture and food industry. The show runs January 7-13 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and January 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, and parking is $15 in Farm Show lots. The Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center is easily accessible from nearby Interstate 81.
