Banks Township Garage Fire Ruled Arson

Screen Shot 2016-02-06 at 5.03.51 PMBANKS TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police are investigating an early morning fire in Banks Township, Indiana County.

Punxsutawney-based state Police say the fire broke out around 2:45 a.m. inside a garage located along Smithport Road.

Police say a nearby resident called 911 after discovering the small fire inside the garage’s bay door.

Glen Campbell VFC and Rossiter VFC responded to the scene and quickly extinguished it.

Investigators could not locate the source of ignition for the fire; however, they located a set of footprints near the point of origin.

The footprints could not be attributed to any firefighters at the scene.

Following an investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit, the fire was ruled an arson.

This investigation is pending laboratory analysis of fire debris collected at the scene.

The building was not insured.

Residents in the area are asked to report any suspicious persons or vehicles.
