Barbara A. Lowrie


Barbara A. Lowrie, 75, of Corsica, passed away Wednesday evening, January 3, 2018 at her home following a courageous fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

She was born on December 3, 1942, in Pittsburgh; daughter of the late Paul and Ethel Coyle Burlett.

Barb graduated in 1960 from Saint Benedict’s Academy in Pittsburgh. After raising her family, she returned to school at La Roche College and earned her Bachelor’s degree at the age of 52. Upon graduation, she took a job as an Administrative Assistant for La Roche. Barb also worked as a Bereavement Counselor for Miller Funeral Home in Bellevue.

She married Joseph Lowrie on May 30, 1962, and he survives.

Barb was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion, where she was a Lector and worked with the Funeral Team. She was a member of the hand bell choir at the First Presbyterian Church of Clarion. She was also a volunteer at the Clarion Free Library and a former member of the Red Hats.

Barb enjoyed quilting, landscaping, and outdoor work. She also hated canned peas.

Barb is survived by her loving husband, three sons, Joseph Lowrie, Jr. and his wife Elaine of Pittsburgh, Dennis Lowrie and his girlfriend, Teri of Pittsburgh, and Max Lowrie and his wife Tina of Corsica, a daughter, Jennifer Heflin and her husband Dave of Pittsburgh, and eight grandchildren, Amanda, Rebecca, Jessica, Melanie, Madeline, David, Paul, and Grace.

She is also survived by her brother, Paul Burlett of Illinois and a sister, Leslie Jones and her husband Joe of Florida.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends from noon to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion with a Wake Service to be held at 4:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, January 8, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor presiding.

In Lieu of flowers, it was Barb’s request that all Memorials and Donations be made in her name to the Clarion Forest V.N.A., 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
