Baseball Recaps: DCC Beats Punxsutawney in Eight Innings


DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Noah Bloom’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Brandon Walker, as DuBOis Central Catholic rallied for a 4-3 win over visiting Punxsutawney.

The Cardinals trailed 3-2 after Punxsutawney scored twice in the top of the sixth but tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a Bloom single to left that scored Peter Downer.

Punxsutawney had taken the 3-2 advantage on a bases-loaded walk to Sheldon Young.

Bloom led DCC’s offense going 3-for-4 with the two RBIs. Walker was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.

Adison Neal and Dylan Ishman were each 2-for-3 for Punxsutawney with Neal also drawing a walk.

Downer got the win in relief. He pitched 2 ⅔ innings of hitless baseball allowing two walks and striking out two.

Cole Sansom started for DCC and allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out three in 5 ⅓ innings of work. Domenic Toretti pitched to two batters in the sixth walking both.

Derek Huey suffered the loss allowing one run on four hits and a walk in 1 ⅓ innings of work. Ike Knarr started and went 5 ⅔ innings giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits and five walks while striking out four.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 3, CURWENSVILLE 1

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Taylor Boland threw a no-hitter to lead Elk County Catholic to a 3-1 win over visiting Curwensville.

Boland was charged with one unearned run, and he did walk five while striking out seven in the win. He threw 97 pitches.

ECC, meanwhile, broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Boland helped himself going 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and an RBI, including the game-winning RBI on a single in the fifth.

Will Uberti was also 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Crusaders.

Jake Mullins scored the lone run for Curwensville.

Christian Bakaysa took the loss going 4 ⅓ innings giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks while striking out three.
